As we move into the ticketing endgame for SunBurn 2019, I wanted to very briefly answer some questions about our ticketing process, and what we need you to do have the smoothest experience at gate possible.

Transfers

Ticket transfers are mostly self service. The sender and receiver each fill out the ticket transfer request form and as long as the information lines up, ticketing will process your request and update the gate list for entry.

Vehicle Passes

The changes we’ve made to vehicle passes this year have caused a lot of confusion, and we’re very sorry about that. The restrictions at the site regarding where vehicles can be placed are a significant challenge, and the last thing we want is to sell more passes than we have room for.

The only vehicle pass available for open sale at this time is the Vehicle Parking Pass. This is for tent camping only, and you will need to unload your vehicle along the loop around open camping, and then move your vehicle to the parking lot. If you need your vehicle with you, e-mail ticketing@nmsunburn.com and let us know what your needs are, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Registration Forms

The other big change with ticketing this year is to placement and vehicle registration forms. We’ll be sending out reminders asking all ticket holders to fill these forms out in the coming weeks.

Vehicle registration allows us to know what vehicles are coming on site, who is responsible for them and where they’ll need to be placed. It also lets us have a vehicle placard pre-printed for you.

The Individual Placement form helps us understand what our attendees need in terms of open camping – do we need a larger quiet area? Do we need additional camping near an ADA accessible porto? It also helps us make sure every attendee is properly ticketed, and avoid situation at gate where people show up and can’t get in.

SunBurn Ticketing here, to announce our last open ticket sale. This will be the last open ticket sale for SunBurn.

Tier 3 will be released on May 31st at 8pm. These tickets will be priced $85, not including tax and fees. There are only 25 tickets in this release. After this is done, we will be entirely sold out, except for Volunteer Directed Group Sales, which are not long for this world either.

For attendees needing to camp with their vehicle, we encourage you to purchase your tickets and then e-mail ticketing@nmsunburn.com. We are running all remaining vehicle camping tickets through a directed sale process in order to avoid selling more passes than we have space for. If you will be tent camping and parking your vehicle in the lot, we have plenty of space, and the $10 Vehicle Parking Pass is all that you need.

We recently held a request for submission and subsequent vote on new symbols to use to represent our event. The motivation for this was to not make use of the Zia symbol, which the people of the Zia Pueblo hold sacred, and have requested that permission be given before the Zia is used by organizations.

We had several great submissions, some of which may see life in other uses, but the submission that received the most votes is now our profile picture. From the artist:

“I walked by a short agave cactus one morning and felt inspired, imagining that I was the sun beating down on it. This led me to create a simple mandala with the agave leaves. For the center motif, I wanted to do something using negative space that would allow for a stencil-friendly image that wasn’t as simple as plopping the man in the middle of something. I also felt strongly that this symbol should be simple enough to allow the rest of the community to remix and repurpose it without difficulty. I hope everyone who sees it can spend a few moments pretending to be the New Mexican Sun, and reflect on how they shine on their world.”

We’re still looking for about 10 people to come out and help on May 25th and 26th. If you are interested, please register on the volunteer database, here. Project details are listed there also.  For liability reasons, we need to be able to account for everyone present to work. Please do not plan to just show up. It will be hot, so the earlier we can get started, the better. The goal would be to arrive between 8-8:30am, have a quick touch-base meeting 8:30-9:00am, start work at 9:00am, and work until 6:00pm (or sooner). It is crucial that anyone who comes to a work weekend is prepared to, well, work. The site is in no way conducive to open-toed shoes, so please plan accordingly; boots or steel-toes are preferable over sneakers. Gloves, safety goggles, and sunscreen will be essential; hard hats will be helpful if you have one. Tools and equipment will be provided, but if you have any you’re willing to bring, please do! There will be shade but you’ll need to bring your own water, hat, whatever you need to work outside in the sun, along with whatever you need for an overnight camp-out if you’re planning on staying both days.

The last four Tier 2 tickets were sold this morning.

The board and the event council will be evaluating how well covered our volunteer needs, especially around rangering, safety, and medical are. The closer we are to having a full slate of staff the more confident we’ll feel in releasing additional ticketing up to the maximum population cap we’ve negotiated with the landowner. This means that even if you have your ticket, one of the ways you can affect how many more tickets become available is by volunteering to get those shifts filled.

Once we have decided how many additional tickets we’ll be able to make available, those will be released in an OMG sale early in June. This will not be a large release, and the price will be $75, not including taxes and fees. In the meantime, if you still need a ticket the best way is through the volunteer directed sale program. We are also still accepting scholarship applications. Click on the Ticketing link on our website to find out information on both of those programs.

Placement and ticketing will be working through all of the existing registrations we have to determine what our capacity for additional vehicle camping is. As soon as we have information on that we’ll be sure to get that posted. If you’re considering registering a theme camp please get that registration in ASAP, as we’ll likely be closing that registration early when we hit capacity. This is looking to be the biggest SunBurn ever, with the most theme camps, the most art, and the most attendees we’ve ever had.

SunBurn Tier 2 ticketing is NOW AVAILABLE. These tickets are priced at $65, not including fees and taxes.
